Scouts - What do you want to do in Boy Scouts in 2009-2010?? - Come and help plan the upcoming year - All interested scouts are encouraged to come. Sunday, August 16 from 7 to 8 pm. Scouts in leadership positions are expected to attend. Please come with ideas for high adventure trips, merit badges and activities. This meeting is at the Aeling's house. Questions please call Ellen Aeling at (651) 306-8241.

Calling all parents and Adult leaders interested in making Troop 294 work smoothly and help out with the work load of the Troop - Parents and Adult Leaders planning meeting on Wednesday, September 2 at the M's - After the scouts plan the year, the parents and adult leadership are invited to put together all the resources we have to carry out the youths' plan. Let's see what we have and what we are missing. The meeting will be on September 2 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and will be a pot luck dinner. If your last name starts with A thru J bring a salad for 6-8; if your last name starts with K thru M bring a main dish for 6-8 and if your last name starts with N thru Z bring a dessert for 6-8. We will meet at the M's. Please send an e-mail to Paula M or give her a call and let her know you are coming.

Adult Volunteers for the 2009 - 2010 Troop 294 year. Attached to this Red Lantern is the list of volunteer needs to make Troop 294 a success each year. Now is a good time to plan ahead for the role you can play. For now all positions are shown open - If you want to continue as an experienced volunteer in the same role you have done before please let the Aeling know, if you don't want to continue in a job you have been doing please let the Aeling know. Or perhaps you would like to try something new? If you have questions on any of the positions and their requirements, please see Mike or Ellen.

The First Scout Meeting of the 2009-2010 - Scout year will be September 14th in the St Pascal's school cafeteria.

September Campout is Saturday, September 19th to Sunday the 20th - But we need you to sign up and pay by September 9th - Great Rivers Fall Camporee - Scouts and Scout Leaders will spend a day at beautiful Warner Nature Center on Marine St Croix. Scouts will have the opportunity to participate in bird banding, Raptor Talks, solar panel pontoon boats and tree identification hikes, as well as a Buckthorn Bonanza Party. This campout is Saturday to Sunday; we will meet at the Aeling's on Saturday at 7 am and return to the Aeling's on Sunday at about 10 am. The cost is $20 per person. Because registration is due before our first meeting and scouts and ad.

Troop 294 Fall Court of Honor Bring the Family and celebrate all that our scouts have done since last May: Monday, September 21 at 7 p.m. at St. Pascal's. Invite your families for this quarterly recognition ceremony. Merit Badges and Rank Advancement will be awarded since May. So to the scouts hoping to advance - now is the time to finish those requirements and schedule a board of review! Refreshments will be served. Please come and celebrate the accomplishments of your scout and all the scouts. We will have the 2009- 2010 calendar for distribution.

Order of the Arrow (OA) Fall Conclave September 25-27 All OA members of the troop are invited - Congratulations to the scouts called out (nominated) to the Order of the Arrow at summer camp. Congratulations to Connie E, Desmond B, Jonas Bu, Regis H, Ben L Danny M, Andy M and Matt S, they we all called out at Summer camp. All OA members of Troop 294 are invited to the Fall Conclave. Registration and fees should be sent directly to the Council office. Fellowship and service begins Friday at 6:00 pm and goes to Sunday morning. This is not a troop campout, but Mike Aeling can carry 6 people in his car, and will be leaving for Fred C A at 6 pm from the Aeling's house. If you would like to ride with him call and verify there is space for you. All ordeal candidates and members of OA should have received information about the conclave in the mail. The Order of the Arrow is Scouting's National Honor Society, Its purpose is to: To recognize those Scout campers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives, to develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit, to promote Scout camping, to crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others October Campout will be at Afton State park and we will go for 3 days October 15 -18 - This MEA weekend. So we thought it would be fun to leave on Thursday night. We will get more detail to you in the September Red Lantern.

venture crew news

Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women, 14 (and have completed eighth grade) through 20 years old.

Upcoming Venture Activities:
Venture Crew High Adventure Summer Trip
:  Canoeing down the St. Croix River.  We will leave late afternoon on Thursday, August 20th and tent camp at Fred C. Andersen the first night.  On Friday, we will drive up the St. Croix and canoe all day on Friday, Saturday & Sunday - tent camping along the way.  We will be back on Sunday evening.  There is still room for more participants that are 14 years or older and finished the 8th grade.  Please call Amy Bu if you are interested.
